European Commission Consults on Insurance Cover for Service Providers
When services are provided cross-border it is important to know what the insurance requirements are in the host Member State. The European Commission would like to find out what obstacles service providers and businessmen face when arranging such insurance cover and has published a public consultation on this topic. It is particularly interested in hearing from service providers, mainly SMEs, providing services on a temporary basis, without setting up a permanent establishment in the host Member State.
Responses are called for by means of answers to a short online questionnaire which includes questions about professional indemnity insurance and cross-border mobility/provision of services. For example if you have provided services in another Member State did you need insurance cover and if so did you experience any difficulties? Answering these questions will contribute to the development of policy concerning both client and professional protection.
The deadline for responses to be sent to this consultation is 16 August 2013. The issue of cover for service providers, particularly indemnity insurance, is important in the real estate sector.
