On 26 March 2021, the Secretariat attended the online event “Launch State of Housing 2021” organised by Housing Europe Observatory.
The report "State of Housing in Europe" is the flagship biennial publication of the Housing Europe Observatory. This fourth edition was released at a critical time for Europe and the world, in the midst of a global pandemic which, in a few months, has changed the way people live, work, study. This has brought into sharp focus the question of affordability and adequacy of housing. Indeed, evidence shows that there is a clear link between housing inequality and health risk, school performance and remote working.
The second part of the event foresaw a round table on State of Housing in Europe, where experts from the European Institutions have discussed the link between housing and health after the pandemic, the latest developments in national housing policies and what is in there for the post covid Europe.
Speakers of the event included: Ms. Alice Pittini, Research Director of Housing Europe; Mr. Pedro Nuno Santos, from the Portuguese Presidency of the EU & Minister for Infrastructure & Housing in Portugal; Ms. Kim van Sparrentak, MEP & Rapporteur on Own-Initiative Report "Access to Decent and Affordable Housing for All"; Mr. Declan Costello, Deputy Director-General from the European Commission DG for Economic and Financial Affairs; Ms. Lucie Davoine, Deputy Head of Unit Director-General Employment, European Commission; Mr. Alessandro Rancati, Design for Policy at the New European Bauhaus, from the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.
