On 29 April, the CEPI Secretariat attended the online event “What is going on in the European construction sector?”, organized by the European Commission’s European Construction Sector Observatory (ECSO).
During the event, ECSO presented its latest Analytical report on the digitalisation of the construction sector. This report discusses the current trends in the use of technologies in the construction sector, the drivers and obstacles for digitalisation, and policy initiatives at EU and national levels. Some of the current initiatives include digital building logbooks, digital building permit systems, and digital coordination platforms. At the moment, the construction sector is one of the least digitalised sectors. Policy recommendations that were presented include the EU supporting the digitalisation of the involved actors in the first phases of the construction value chains, raising awareness of digital technologies towards construction SMEs in particular, and increasing financial support to companies, especially SMEs, to invest in digital technologies. Speakers of the event included Ms Fulvia Raffaelli and Mr Antonio Paparella of the DG GROW, and Mr Karim Karaki, Mr Giovanni Signorini, and Ms Tsvetelina Blagoeva of PwC.
