On May 10 and 11, the Secretariat attended the Renovation Summit, organised by Housing Europe.
The online conference revolved around the Climate Law and how to ensure a green and fair transition. Important in this process is the renovation of public, cooperative and social housing in Europe while keeping it affordable for tenants.
Issues discussed by the panellists on May 10 were how the Recovery Plans can contribute to the Renovation Wave and what impact state aid can have within the public, cooperative, and social housing sector. Furthermore, different EU funding tools, fiscal tools, and technical assistance that could help the construction and renovation of affordable housing were discussed. On May 11, policies for decarbonising the housing stock and the role of social housing in this process were discussed. Special attention was dedicated to the role of regulation and the lack of funding in this process. The speakers of the event included Mr Bent Madsen, President of Housing Europe, Ms Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Ms Marie Linder, President of the International Union of Tenants, Mr Julien Guigue of the Recovery and Resilience Task Force, Mr Luca Di Donatantonio of DG REFORM, Mr Allen Monks of DG ECFIN, Ms Barbara Steenbergen of the International Union of Tenants, Ms Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, Mr Stefan Moser of DG ENER, Mr Ciaran Cuffe, Member of the European Parliament for the Greens, and many more.
