The BRIDGE Initiative – coordinating energy research and innovation projects across the EU

On September 29, the European Commission has published a new brochure collecting the important results of the work of the EU’s BRIDGE cooperation initiative.
The BRIDGE initiative, which started with Horizon 2020 and continues now under Horizon Europe, the biggest Research and Innovation funding programme ever supported, unites Research & Innovation (R&I) projects in the areas of smart grid, energy storage, islands, and digitalization.

The brochure provides an extensive description of all the projects funded by the European Union between 2014 and 2020 in the areas of consumer, digital, grid, small and large-scale storage and generation technologies. A large section of these projects concerns smart buildings and smart houses and, more generally, the real estate sector.

The EU’s current green and digital ambitions require the engagement of all market actors and policy-makers in order to successfully translate these ambitions into reality. The EU Multiannual Financial Framework for the next 7 years and the new recovery instrument will provide an unprecedented opportunity to support numerous projects in these fields.

Given the relevance of the real estate sector and its professions in paving the way for a greener and digital future in Europe, the Secretariat of CEPI will keep monitoring the policy and legislative developments with regards to climate actions and digitalisation and inform members accordingly.
