EU Deep Renovation Standard: Shifting gears to deliver the Renovation Wave – online webinar

On November 15, the Secretariat of CEPI attended the online webinar “EU Deep Renovation Standard: Shifting gears to deliver the Renovation Wave”, organised by the European Insulation Manufacturers Association (EURIMA).

With the adoption of the Renovation Wave strategy in 2020, the European Commission set its ambition to double the annual renovation rates of Europe’s building stock in the next ten years, with a particular focus on deep renovations. One of the key legal acts to achieve this goal is the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), whose proposal for revision is expected to be published by the European Commission before the end of 2021. During the event, panellists discussed the best ways for achieving both the quantity and quality of renovations throughout Europe. Participants particularly stressed the need for a clear and legally binding definition of deep renovation to avoid fragmentation among EU countries. The revision of the EPBD will play a crucial role in defining how to increase the renovation rate of buildings to achieve Europe’s 2050 climate goals.

Speakers of the event included: Ms. Hélène Sibileau, Senior Policy Advisor at the Building Performance Institute of Europe (BPIE); Mr. Timothy Goodson, World Energy Outlook Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA); Mr. Karlis Goldstein, Energy Efficiency Advisor at the Cabinet of Commissioner Ms. Kadri Simson, European Commissioners for Energy; and Mr. Dragomir Tzanev, Executive Director at EnEffect Bulgaria.

A recording of the session will be made available soon on EURIMA’s website.
