On November 16, the Secretariat attended the workshop on “Energy performance in buildings”, organized by the European Commission in the framework of the New European Bauhaus Project.
The event hosted guest speakers both from the public sector, such as the European Commission (EC) Policy Officer, Ms Annette Persson (DG Energy), as well as many experts from the academic world and private sector. Speakers to present private sector projects included: Ms. Giuliana Bonvicini (INGENIO), Mr Filipe Neves Da Silva (EDP), Ms Zita Kakalejcikova (ComAct Project), Mr Sebastien Delpont (Energiesprong France), Mr Eddy De Ruwe (VEKA), Ms Marta Maria Sesana (Prof. at the University of Brescia), and Ms Raquel Diez Abarca (Green Building Council Spain).
The discussion focused on the implementation of the European economy decarbonization policy. Speakers exchanged views and information about projects that aim at achieving greener and more sustainable housing. While academia advocated for an integrated European policy that aims at strengthening renovations in buildings, other stakeholders presented projects on new ways of building roofs, and new solar and wind power solutions for rural villages.
Finally, the Commission addressed the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) that will aim at making stronger and clearer rules concerning the energy efficiency of buildings. On this regard, the Commission stressed the importance of the EPBD revision which will introduce new efficient ways of financing renovations.
