Achieving the energy transition through active energy efficiency  - event

On Wednesday the 11th of May, the Secretariat of CEPI attended “Achieving the energy transition through active energy efficiency”, an in-person event organized by Euractiv and Danfoss Climate Solutions.
The event presented different solutions to achieve the European Union goal of being energy-neutral by 2050. The use of renewable energy is not the only solution for this goal, and it needs to be coupled with efficiency, to be effective. Speakers debated around two possible ways to achieve energy-neutrality: the renovation of buildings and the use of heat pumps in district heating, to avoid energy waste.

The importance of the current recast of the EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) and the EED (Energy Efficiency Directive) was reinforced by all panelists.

Among the speakers of the event, there were Mr Stefan Moser, Head of Unit for Buildings and Products, from the DG Energy at the European Commission, Mr Radan Kanev, MEP Rapporteur for ENVI (Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety) opinion on the EPBD; Niels Fuglsang, MEP, member of the ITRE (Industry, Research and Energy) Committee, rapporteur for the EED; Ms Renée Bruel , Director of the European Climate Foundation, and Mr Andreas Graf, senior associate Agora Energiewende; Mr Jürgen Fischer the President of Danfoss Climate Solutions, and Mr Simone Alessandri, the Deputy Managing Director at eu.bac (European Building Automation and Controls Association).
