EURACTIV debate: "A revised EPBD - Faster decarbonisation of the EU's building stock?"

On Tuesday, May 17th, the Secretariat of CEPI attended a hybrid event organized by EURACTIV and supported by Équilibre des Énergies (EdEn), in which a debate was held about "A revised EPBD - Faster decarbonisation of the EU's building stock?".

The conference discussed what can be done to enhance the existing plan to support an effective decarbonisation process in the building sector. The discussions and the work on this subject are fundamental because buildings are one of the largest sources of energy consumption.

The debate was centred on the recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

Some of the questions that were put to the speakers:
 - How can the EPBD proposal best contribute to the decarbonisation of the building sector?
 - What are the technical challenges and solutions to electrifying the EU's building stock?
- What renovations in buildings can contribute to sustainable mobility?
- How to increase users’ awareness of their housing’s carbon footprint and of the low-carbon solutions that are available?

The speakers of the event, interviewed by moderator Dave Keating, included: Stefan Moser, Head of Unit for Buildings and Products, DG Energy (ENER), European Commission; Mariangiola Fabbri, Head of Research, Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE); Erkki Maillard, Senior Vice President, EDF European Affairs; Brice Lalonde, President, Équilibre des Énergies (EdEn).
