On June 13, 2022, the CEPI Secretariat attended the Euractiv event organized with the support of IEECP, the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy: How to achieve a socially just EU Renovation Wave?
The European Union is currently facing different challenges, from the social crisis and the alarming rise of energy poverty to the current energy security crisis to climate change. In this scenario, it is important that the so-called Renovation Wave for Europe considers all these aspects to be able to fulfil its full potential in both terms of energy efficiency and a fairer society. The importance of boosting the use of clean and renewable energies was also underlined. This and more have been discussed during this interesting hybrid session, in which the IEECP also presented the main key findings of their recently published study on the Renovation Wave.
Speakers of the event, moderated by Mr Brian Maguire of Euractiv, included: Ms Adela Tesarova, Head of Unit for Consumers, Local Initiatives, Just Transition, DG ENER, European Commission, MEP Mr Ciarán Cuffe, Member of the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committee, Rapporteur for the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) at the European Parliament, MEP Mr Petros Kokkalis, Member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee at the European Parliament, Mr Guillaume Joly, Sustainable Housing Officer -Energy Team at BEUC, the European Consumers Organisation, Mr Stefan Bouzarovski, Professor, University of Manchester, and Mr Vlasis Oikonomou, Managing Director and Senior Researcher, Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP).
