REGULATION

The regulation of professional services, such as those offered by real estate agents and property managers, remains within the competencies of Member States. This translates into a wide variety of national regulations throughout Europe, which range from strict state regulation to semi-regulated models or the absence of regulation, and the fact that in some countries the lines between real estate agents and property managers are blurred, while others foresee a strict separation of roles.

In 2020, CEPI established its Regulation Support Group (RSG) with the aim of creating an exchange platform to discuss best practice regulatory solutions and assist those countries that are introducing or revising national professional regulation. The RSG also decided to publish a report every two years which provides a concise overview of the regulatory situation for the real estate professions in Europe.
