The Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) Committee of the European Parliament is now considering the draft report prepared for IMCO by Bernadette Vergnaud MEP on the modernisation of the Professional Qualifications Directive. The issue was on the agenda of the meeting of IMCO which took place on 18 September. Overall the draft report does not question the fundamentals of the proposal put forward by the European Commission at the end of last year, but there are important details to be worked out. The modernisation of the Directive is a priority issue for CEPI which has written to Madame Vergnaud and the shadow rapporteurs about some of the proposed amendments in the report.
The amendments will be considered on 6 November with the vote in IMCO due to take place 28 November. CEPI will continue to monitor developments carefully and member associations will be kept informed as to progress.
