EPBD Debate Series #3, Road to Zero-Emission Buildings (online event)

On May 31, the CEPI Secretariat attended the third webinar organised by the European Copper Institute- Leonardo Energy in the framework of their specially designed EPBD Debate Series.

The speakers of this episode of the debates included MEP Mr Ciarán Cuffe, Rapporteur of the revision of the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EBPD), Mr Mariangiola Fabbri, Head of research at BPIE – the Building Performance Institute Europe, Mr Luka De Bruyckere, Programme Manager at ECOS – the Environmental Coalition on standards, and Ms Naomi Chevillard, Head of Regulatory Affairs at SolarPower Europe. Moderator of the event, Mr Quentin De Hults, Director Green and Healthy Buildings at the European Copper Institute.

The interesting discussion focused on how buildings should be prepared to manage intermittent energy from renewable sources, storage, e-mobility, digital transformations, and what does really mean for a building to be “smart”. The active role of buildings in energy systems was also debated. MEP Cuffe also gave an interesting update on the next steps of the recast and gave a few insights on his ambitions as Rapporteur on this vital file in the European energy strategy.
